PRESEASON SKILLS COACHING PROGRAMMES

WHAT IS ACCELERATOR?

Accelerator is a series of weekly group coaching sessions led by Southland Cricket and ideal preparation for every junior and youth cricketer for the season ahead each year.

The programme is designed to give the confidence and ability to every player to reach their right level and ensure they continue to be best-equipped to enjoy the sport well into the future.

Sessions are open to club & school players of any ability from Yr7-Yr10 no matter their experience and skill level. The programme is designed for those looking to…

  • improve skill and technique to enjoy playing further

  • develop their game to be a more effective performer

  • gain more confidence in all aspects of cricket

  • challenge themselves to expand their game

  • prepare for the season ahead - whether that be club/school matches or an important tournament/festival

There are also Accelerator sessions for older players (Yr11+) too, which includes the invite-only ‘TalentID’ (Emerging Players) programme.

Predominantly for older players looking to perform

All Accelerator groups and sessions are run by Southland Cricket staff supported by coaches with specialist knowledge or extensive playing experience, alongside local volunteers who regularly coach club, school or district age-group teams in the region

2 important concepts underpin all accelerator coaching…

‘practice-to-play-to-PRACTICE’

Accelerator gives participants the chance to build technique and increase skill levels before the season.

Players will then naturally put this into practice throughout the season, discovering new strengths and areas to improve in every game. This leads to clear goals for the following year's Accelerator programme and creates a continuous cycle of learning and improvement for young cricketers in the region.

‘stage-by-stage year-on-year’

Accelerator is designed as a progressive coaching programme that develops players each year.

Programme leads and coaches upskill constantly and new knowledge is introduced all the time.

But the technique and skill focuses stay the same every winter, leading to consistent and continued improvement for every player that remains unique to them.
